More Than Art

As many of my friends know, I have participated in a number of marathons and triathlons with Team in Training, one of the fundraising arms of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I think it's a great organization that brings people together for the common goal of raising money to find a cure for blood-related cancers while training for an endurance event.

My sister, Heather, was diagnosed with Leukemia at a very early age. In the early 70s treatment was not what it was today, but through some long battles and many trips to the hospital, she survived. The survival rate continues to improve and inspire, but many sisters, brothers, aunts and friends are still affected.

I wanted to share with you all one of those survivors. His name is Michael Patrick. He was our honor patient for last year's White Lake Half Ironman Triathlon. Michael is an incredible kid. As you can see by the pictures, his fight hasn't been easy, but he's always faced it with an incredible spirit and an infectious smile.

So, none of this really has much to do with art or the Gallery, but I thought it was worth sharing on this Mother's Day. If you have interest in learning more about Team in Training or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, please click on the links below.
